Less than a week after reporting its first COVID-19 case, life in Kentucky made a sudden and dramatic change. The governor’s actions to begin locking down the state were among the most aggressive of any Southern state.

The virus outbreak that started on the other side of the world prompted the closing of schools and businesses.

In a state known for its love of basketball, Kentuckians learned the outbreak would sideline the state’s high school tournament, the University of Kentucky’s conference tournament underway in Nashville, and the upcoming NCAA tournament.
